The Drop of Two Atomic Bombs

The Drop of Two Atomic Bombs

Should we or should we not?  This is what President Harry Truman had to decide.  In the end, he decided that two atomic on Japan.  Let's look closer at the decision to drop the deadliest weapon known to man then and the devastating effects.

Many criticize Truman for deciding to drop two atomic bombs on Japan, but who knows?  More people may have died with continued fighting than the drop of the two bombs.  Two million loyal Japanese soldiers were still fighting for their country.  So, after Japan refused to back down after the US gave them the ultimatum, Truman made his final decision.

On August 6, 1945, the Enola Gay dropped the first atomic bomb, the "Little Boy," on Hiroshima.  This bomb flattened Nagasaki.  But, Japan still refused to surrender.  Then, three days later, the Box's Car dropped the "Fat Man" on Nagasaki.  Finally, Japan surrendered.  Sixty to eighty thousand people died instantly or painfully from their wounds.

There are many sickening, gross details.  I won't get to into many details, but this was a very sad event.  People lost their faces and limbs, and skin fell off.  There is only one man who survived both explosions, Tsutomu Yamaguchi.  He was in Hiroshima for a business trip, survived the atomic bomb there.  Then, he traveled home to Nagasaki, where he survived another atomic bomb.
